We grow grass in Northern Minnesota and harvest its seed for use in lawns, playgrounds, golf courses, and parklands. Our Zippel Bay Farm is tucked below giant Lake of the Woods on the Canadian border, and the cooling effect of all that water helps to keep grass comfortable and healthy during the summer. Our main crop is Poa pratensis L., better known as Kentucky Bluegrass. Bluegrass is the lawn grass and, like fine wine, comes in several varieties, each with its own unique characteristics. The picture below is from midsummer and shows the seed ready to be harvested. |
